32Asymptotic geometry of the Higgs bundle moduli space

27/06/2022 | Conference

Geometric structures, compactifications and group actions

The unifying background of the meeting will be rigid differential-geometric structures, such as conformal and projective structures. This refers both to structures locally modelled on homogeneous spaces and to their curved analogues. One topic will be applications of Cartan connections to locally homogeneous structures, their moduli spaces, and compactifications. A related topic will be conformal compactifications such as Poincare-Einstein manifolds, and analogues for other ambient geometries. Another topic will be group actions preserving such structures and their rigidity.

Geometric and analytic aspects of moduli spaces

This workshop is intended as the continuation of a series of highly successful international conferences centered around the analysis and geometry of gauge-theoretically defined moduli spaces.

Gauge-theoretically defined moduli spaces often exhibit interesting geometry at infinity. In many interesting cases they are non-compact, carry special metrics (often hyperkähler) and limit to certain asymptotic models. Their description requires tools from geometry and global analysis.

We intend to bring together a number of internationally renowned experts as well as younger researchers in the field.

AUSTRALIAN-GERMAN WORKSHOP ON DIFFERENTIAL GEOMETRY IN THE LARGE

In the first week of the program, we plan an international conference to highlight recent advances in global Riemannian and metric geometry, topology, and geometric analysis to foster communication between experts and early career researchers from Australia and abroad and identify directions to set the stage for future advances.

In the second week, we plan to hold the first Australian-German workshop on differential geometry with Australian and German geometers who participated in the conference, focussing on new problems and potential directions of future research that came up in the first week.

Organisers: Owen Dearricott ( University of Melbourne), Diarmuid Crowley (University of Melbourne), Thomas Leistner (University of Adelaide), Yuri Nikolayevsky (LaTrobe University), Wilderich Tuschmann (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology).
